New York Republican Representative Chris Lee says Washington is doing more spending than saving. Lee made the comment during the Republican weekly address Saturday and said the spending is often in the name of creating jobs that don't materialize. He also took aim at the healthcare package in which he noted President Obama's own experts determined will increase costs for Americans. He stressed, quote, "After leaving taxpayers on the hook for massive "stimulus" programs and permanent bailouts, Democrats in Washington have no credible plan to put our fiscal house in order." Lee added that House Democrats may not offer a budget this year, but want to continue spending. He said for American families it means a missed opportunity to provide the fiscal discipline economists say is needed to create jobs and boost the economy.
Lee pointed out Republicans have proposed several initiatives to reduce spending and make Washington do more with less. He said GOP lawmakers have asked Obama to use his authority under the law to force Congress to consider spending cuts. He noted strict budget caps to limit federal spending on an annual basis has also been proposed. Lee said, "Less spending, more jobs: it's that simple." He emphasized that Obama and the Democrats should listen to the American people who want lawmakers of both parties to work together toward common-sense solutions to stop the spending spree and focus on helping manufacturers and small businesses create jobs. He said, quote, "A responsible budget would be a good place to start."
