Press Release from United Memorial Medical Center:

United Memorial Medical Center will restrict visitor entrance points to the facility during evenings and weekends in an effort to better manage Hospital security.

Beginning February 4, 2013, the main entrance to the Hospital will close at 7 pm on weekdays and be closed on weekends. The Summit Street Entrance will close at 9 pm each day. Visitors to United Memorial after 7 pm, Monday through Friday, should use the Summit Street Entrance until 9 pm or the Emergency Room Entrance. All visitors on Saturday or Sunday should use the Emergency Room Entrance.

United Memorial recently completed renovations to allow visitor access to the main Hospital from the Emergency Department. Signage will be placed in the hallways to assist with way finding from this area.

“For security and general safety, it is important to monitor building activity,” said Daniel Ireland, COO of United Memorial. “We want to protect the well-being of our patients and understand the importance visitors have in the healing process. Reducing access points to the facility during non-peak hours of operation, allows us to have a manageable span of control and maintains visitor hours for our patients.”

Visiting hours at United Memorial are from 9 am to 9 pm; with the exception of Maternity which is from 1 to 8:30 pm.

So why was a state of the art front entrance built if it won't be used when most people visit the hospital. My only chance to visit the hospital is at night or weekends. Also where is the handicap accessibility in the emergency room? Do you have to walk through where the patients are? Will there be wheelchairs and someone to direct you to a person's room? Sounds like the want to get rid of the switchboard/information. This isn't a good idea
