A wind chill advisory has been posted for Genesee County until 10 this morning.
Single digit temperatures and winds between 10 and 15 miles an hour are creating bitter cold conditions.
Genesee County received only a light dusting of snow overnight but there has been snow around us.
A Lake Effect Snow Watch has been posted for Niagara and Orleans Counties.
Along the Southern Tier there was heavy snow overnight. The west bound lanes of the thruway were closed yesterday afternoon south of Buffalo to the Pennsylvania state line.
The thruway is open this morning.
The Steuben County Sheriff's Department is up in arms over New York's new gun-control law. County Sheriff David Cole has released a statement saying the SAFE Act will make law abiding citizens "considered criminals if they choose to stand up for their Second Amendment rights." Cole says many residents continue to have questions about how the new law, which brings limits on magazine clips and assault weapon ownership, will ultimately affect them.
The families of the Continental Connection Flight 3407 crash victims are trying to get their lawsuit moving. Pinnacle Airlines is involved in bankruptcy proceedings, and family members of crash victims have filed a motion seeking to have the stay lifted on their lawsuit. Pinnacle is the parent company of Colgan Air, the regional carrier that operated the plane that crashed in Clarence, killing 50 people. The lawsuit alleges that Colgan pilots were not properly trained and were forced to fly when sick and fatigued.
Governor Cuomo is expected to continue his push for a minimum wage increase in the coming weeks. The governor is working on assembling a coalition of pro-business interests in the Empire State that can help him garner support for a minimum wage hike. Such a coalition is expected to include numerous national retailers that employ minimum wage workers.
Governor Andrew Cuomo plans to shed some more light on his budget plan today. Cuomo will unveil the blueprint for his budget proposal for the upcoming fiscal year. Analysts expect the governor to follow through on promises to give specific costs for several bold proposals Cuomo made during his recent State of the State address.
