Calling the increase in gun sales since the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School last month alarming, U.S. Senator from New York Chuck Schumer is calling on gun retailers to take action.

The Democratic Senator would like to see a moratorium on sales of these weapons until Congress acts on legislation.

“I’m urging our major gun retailers in America – the Wal-Marts, the Sports Authorities – to voluntarily suspend sales of modern, assault-style weapons," Scbhumer said.

Schumer notes that Dick's Sporting Goods has already stopped the sale of assault-style weapons.

While he's at it, maybe the Senator will ask retailers to stop the sale of alcohol and tobacco products, considering how many people are killed because of their use/misuse. Give me a break.
