Batavia Police this afternoon released a statement regarding Saturday night's fire at the old Wiard Plow factory on Swan Street.
Detectives Kevin Czora and Tim Crossett and Lieutenant James Steinbrenner are joint investigators on the case. They report that the fire is being labeled as “suspicious” at this time. No one has been implicated for setting the fire. Interviews have been conducted with several persons of interest, and the interviewing will continue; however, none of the people interviewed are being called suspects.
Batavia Police wish to stress that there is no solid evidence to suggest that Saturday’s fire was set intentionally. There is also no indication that the blaze was caused by embers from a separate fire at that same location earlier in the day.
