Good news for local soccer fans. Abby Wambach will be playing in Rochester on a regular basis.

The Western New York Flash is making a comeback with the newly-formed National Women’s Soccer League. The league took 55 national team players from North America – the U.S., Canada and Mexico – and distributed the players amongst eight established teams.

The Flash, which play at Sahlen’s Stadium in downtown Rochester, were awarded Rochester native Wambach along with Carli Lloyd from the U.S. team.

Whenever Wambach plays in Rochester – either as a member of the U.S. national team or as a part of the now-defunct Women’s Professional Soccer – she regularly draws a sellout crowd of 12 to15,000 pectators.

Some other names you might recognize from the Olympics or World Cup if you’re not a big soccer fan…Alex Morgan will play for Portland Thorns FC and goalie Hope Solo and Megan Rapineo will suit up for Seattle Reign FC.

Here is a full list of the assignments.
