Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver wants to close a loophole that allows welfare recipients in New York to draw cash benefits from some very interesting places.
Silver says his chamber will pass a bill that would ban those receiving welfare from getting cash at liquor stores, bars and strip clubs. The move comes following a "New York Post" report that such incidents were taking place on a frequent basis around the state.
If the loophole isn't closed, the state risks losing up to $120 million in federal welfare aid.
