Town of Batavia Firefighters Holding Boot Drive Saturday
Town of Batavia firefighters are holding a boot drive tomorrow to benefit the West Webster Fire Department and the families of the victims of the Christmas Eve ambush that left two volunteer firemen dead. Firefighter and EMT-I of the Town of Batavia Fire Department, John Mullen, says there is a special solidarity among firefighters.
“I think you always know that there’s a chance something could happen," Mullen said. "But it gives testament to who these kind of people are that we do band together like this – not just the town, but firefighters in general. It’s definitely something special to see firefighters come together.”
Mullen says the crew is excited about participating, which is a tradition among fire houses in fund-raising efforts. Residents are asked to drive by the Town of Batavia Fire Hall on Lewiston Road (across from K-Mart) between 10 and 2 p.m. Saturday and drop donations into a firefighter's boot.
NY Lawmaker Wants To Ban High Capacity Ammunition Clips
A state lawmaker from Long Island wants to ban high capacity ammunition magazines in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., school massacre.
Representative Carolyn McCarthy is reintroducing legislation to reinstate the ban on those ammunition clips. McCarthy lost her husband and son to gun violence in the 1993 mass shooting on the Long Island Rail Road.
The High Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act would ban the sale or transfer of ammunition magazines that hold more than ten rounds.
