A pair of state committees are pushing to give the governor's office more power in during state emergencies.
The NYS Respond and NYS Ready committees have recommended the governor's office be given the authority to issue statewide measures like gas rationing and curfews that would override any local laws during emergency situations.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has put together several committees to look into emergency preparedness in New York State in the wake of Hurricane Sandy and how it can be improved. The committees have also recommended having the state stockpile emergency supplies like water, food and fuel.
