Town of Batavia firefighters are holding a boot drive tomorrow to benefit the West Webster Fire Department and the families of the victims of the Christmas Eve ambush that left two volunteer firemen dead. Firefighter and EMT-I of the Town of Batavia Fire Department, John Mullen, says there is a special solidarity amongst firefighters.
“I think you always know that there’s a chance something could happen," Mullen said. "But it gives testament to who these kind of people are that we do band together like this – not just the town, but firefighters in general. It’s definitely something special to see firefighters come together.”
Mullen says the crew is excited about participating, which is a tradition amongst fire houses in fund-raising efforts. Residents are asked to drive by the Town of Batavia Fire Hall on Lewiston Road (across from Kmart) between 10 and 2 p.m. Saturday and drop donations into a firefighter's boot.
