State Comptroller Predicts Dire Situation for State Without Fiscal Agreement
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli says falling off the fiscal cliff does not portend good news for New York State.
DiNapoli said the many cost-cutting and tax-increasing measures will affect New York families and cause the state to face $43 billion in tax increases.
If Washington fails to agree on a plan to avoid the fiscal cliff, DiNapoli says the payroll tax rate will increase by 47 percent for employers and “immediately reduce paychecks,” as well as affect federal funding for state and local government for years to come, leading to higher taxes or reduced services.
Plea Deal Reached with Rochester Woman Accused of Setting Fire that Killed Four of Her Children
A Rochester mother accused of starting a house fire that killed four of her children pleaded guilty to manslaughter today in Monroe County Court.
It’s part of a plea deal for 31-year-old Bobbie Kugler to avoid going to trial which could have resulted in a life sentence since she was facing second-degree murder charges. In the plea deal, Kugler also pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree assault and one count of fourth-degree arson.
With the plea deal, she acknowledges reckless, not intentional, actions under law.
Kugler is set to be scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 22.
Genesee County Grand Jury Releases Recent Indictments
A Genesee County Jail inmate has been indicted for allegedly trying to hire a hit man to kill another person connected to his criminal case.
42-year-old Earl Sprague, from the Town of Alabama, was arrested and jailed this past summer on multiple charges of sexual abuse.
Authorities at the time said Sprague was accused of abusing two girls under the age of 11.
This latest indictment charges Sprague with a felony count of criminal solicitation for allegedly trying to arrange the murder of someone connected with the sex abuse case.
A man accused of robbing a TV and a laptop from a residence on East Avenue in October has been indicted on 16 total charges.
27-year-old Trevon Armstrong of Tracy Avenue is indicted on charges of burglary, criminal possession of stolen property, criminal mischief, falsely reporting an incident, tampering with a witness, offering a false statement and forgery.
A Darien Lake Concert goer has been indicted on charges related to drunk driving.
Janet Brady, 45, was allegedly found drunk in an employee parking lot at the Theme Park with a child in her car in August during a boy-band concert.
Brady is charged in the indictment with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated per se.
