Two armed suspects are on the loose after a botched robbery at an IHOP in Cheektowaga.
Investigators say two men armed with a gun and a knife respectively burst into the restaurant on Walden Avenue late last night. The suspects tried to get workers to open a safe but no one knew the combination. Employees and customers managed to lock themselves in an office for safety.
“They kept themselves in the safest part of the building that they could behind locked doors," Cheektowaga Police Lieutenant Gerald Jankowski said to reporters last night. "The other people had no access to them from (in there). They waited for the police to respond and give them instructions as to what to do.”
The suspects ran away before police got there. The two suspects were not able to take any money from the restaurant.
No one was hurt. Police don’t have a description of either of the men involved, but are interviewing witnesses.
