 Shoppers around Western New York  and in Batavia are out and about trying to get the best deals on this Black Friday.  Dozens of folks began lining up on Thanksgiving at Wal-Mart, Target and other retail stores in advance of big sales.  Some stores were opening up as early as 8 p.m. Thanksgiving night.

It was a warm and pleasant Thanksgiving Day in the Genesee Country.  The high temperature yesterday was a very nice 60 degrees.  But we will be losing the good weather today with a high expected of about 50 and a 90 percent chance of showers.  Snow showers are in the forecast for tonight with a low of around 32.


A portion of the Lake Ontario State Parkway in Orleans County is being shut down for the winter months.  State Department of Transportation officials say the closure of a two-mile section of the parkway between Lakeside Beach State Park and Route 98 in Carlton will save the agency about 70-thousand dollars in plowing costs.  Officials plan to shut down the roadway on November 28th and reopen it when the weather gets warmer.


Four persons were arrested for underage drinking after an auto accident on Route 238 in the Town of Alexander Wednesday night.  One of the occupants of the car was charged additionally with Possession of Marijuana after a quantity of the drug in possession of 19 year old Joseph Mogarvero of State Street in Batavia.  He was also found to be in possession of a smoking pipe.  The other 3 were charged only with underage drinking.

20 year old Leaha Wimmer of Darien has been charged with possession of a forged instrument.  She allegedly was in possession of a forged/stolen check which was subsequently used.  She is being held on 10 thousand dollars bail.


23 year old Lucas Yauchzee of West Bergen Road in Bergen has been charged with possession marijuana and hydrocodone.  The arrest stemmed from a domestic incident that occurred at Yauchzee’s apartment back in 2011. He was issued an appearance ticket.


17 year old Brandon Benz of Clinton Street Road in the town of Batavia has been charged with harassment.  He was arrested for pushing and grabbing a person by the shirt during an altercation. 


32 year old Carrie Stewart of Genesee Street in Attica has been charged petit larceny and tampering with physical evidence.  She alleged stole merchandise from the Dollar General Store in Attica and then threw the stolen merchandise into a creek while being stopped by the store’s clerk. 



U.S. Senator Charles Schumer is crafting a bill aimed at providing supplemental relief to victims of Hurricane Sandy.  The senior senator from New York says he hopes to have the bill finished by early next week.  Schumer has not said how much money will be earmarked for the bill, but he is encouraging New York, New Jersey and other states to coordinate on a single legislative request.
