A LeRoy native charged with bail jumping after moving to South Carolina following an assault charge in Genesee County had his sentencing postponed today.
Judge Robert Noonan said he wanted 20-year-old James Kosiorek to undergo more mental health testing since the most recent evaluation was from 2008. Kosiorek had a troubled upbringing which included having his brother, in his words, die in his arms when he was younger.
Handcuffed and wearing an orange jumpsuit, Kosiorek was unable to read his entire statement solo at sentencing as he choked back tears. He asked the judge for forgiveness and says he sees himself as a more mature individual since he’s in a position of caring for a fiancée and child.
The assault charge stemmed from a 2010 incident in LeRoy. Kosiorek is being held in County Jail without bail.
