Hunting season is underway and the State Department of Environmental Conservation has some good news: because of the mild winter, it predicts there will be more deer this season.
In the last two years, hunters across the state took in about 230,000 deer, and that number will rise this season.
The DEC numbers, though, don’t account for where a deer is located. Large populations of the animal could be available on land hunters are prohibited from.
