Those who need assistance meeting heating costs this winter will be able to receive it starting today.
HEAP – or Home Energy Assistance Program – has begun accepting applications. HEAP is a state program designed to help lower-income families and elderly adults keep their homes warm in the winter months.
The maximum a HEAP benefit household can receive is $650. Eligibility is based on income and family size. Last year, 1.5 million households received HEAP assistance.
If you’re interested in participating, apply as soon as possible, because benefits are awarded on a first-come-first-served basis.
