A Batavia woman was sentenced to five years probation today in Genesee County Court for charges associated with welfare fraud.
32-year-old Deborah Schramm of Hutchins Place pled guilty earlier this year to a single felony count of attempted grand larceny.
Her husband Michael was sentenced to one-and-a-half to three years in prison in September after failing to report he was working full-time, despite filing papers for benefits.
The couple has agreed to make full restitution of over $17,000 to the Department of Social Services and will be disqualified from receiving food stamp benefits and temporary assistance.
To report suspected cases on welfare fraud, call the Genesee County department of social services fraud investigation unit at 344-2580 extension 6417. All calls are confidential.
