Wyoming County Officials can’t yet confirm that Lorraine Qutermous perished in the Tuesday morning fire that destroyed the Castile municipal building.
An autopsy was performed Thursday morning at the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office on the badly damaged remains. The body was discovered in the rubble in the basement Wednesday morning in the wake of the fire.
Authorities say an official confirmation of the identity of the body and the cause of death await the results of further testing.
Investigators, meanwhile, are seeking help. If anyone has information about Lorraine Qutermous's whereabouts from late Monday, until 1 AM Tuesday, they are asked to call the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office at 786-8989.
The town and village of Castile is still under a state of emergency. But offices are now operating in the Bank of Castile across the street and court sessions are slated for the fire hall.
Officials say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
