Dressed in hazmat gear from head to toe, crews have begun cutting through the burning, mountain of material at Hillcrest Industries in Attica in an effort to stop the fire and the spreading stench for good. EPA Public Affairs Officer Mike Basile says, " it's sad that the company and other agencies involved didn't address an activity like this sometime ago." Basile from the environmental protection agency says crews are doing live air monitoring at the site. This wasn't until the EPA released results of a recent study showing levels of benzene-- a known carcinogen-- in the Attica air. Smoke and steam were seen emanating from the pile immediately as expected. The EPA says, it could be days before the fire is out, perhaps even longer until the stench stops spreading for good.

Investigators have what could be the gun that was used to murder Clymer Schools Superintendent, Keith Reed. After U-S Marshals took the suspect, Anthony Robert Taglianetti, into custody in Virginia Friday, they searched his car and found a handgun. Chautauqua County Sheriff Joe Gerace says, his office has a bullet to compare with the gun, to see if it is the murder weapon. If it's a match, the gun would be the strongest piece of physical evidence against Taglianetti so far. The investigation began Monday, when police found Reed's body about 100 yards from his home in Clymer. Reed had last been seen alive around 8:30 the previous Friday night.Authorities will try to bring the suspect back to Chautauqua County, to face second-degree murder charges. Taglianetti has a court date in Virginia on Monday.
