Genesee and Orleans counties are now sharing a public health director.

Paul Pettit will lead the two counties’ combined health department. Genesee’s Legislature met Wednesday at BataviaTown Hall to approve a two-year pilot agreement. The new health department arrangement goes into effect Jan. 1.

Pettit has led the Orleans health department for about five years, following nine years of work in environmental health for the county.
