A Town of Alexander woman and her mother have been arrested for allowing their son and grandson to live in what authorities called unsafe squalor conditions.
Charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child were 22-year-old Lisa Richmond and her mother, 44-year-old Lynda Morrill.
The two lived in the same Dodgeson Road home with Lisa’s two-year-old son, Lynda’s grandson.
Genesee County Sheriff’s deputies said the case is being followed-up by Social Services and Child Protective Services.
An Arcade man is behind bars today after holding police at bay for nearly six hours this weekend.
39-year-old Gregory Sanders barricaded himself into his Prospect Street home on Saturday afternoon.
Police were called for a domestic dispute and found Sanders was drinking and threatening to fire a weapon. Six hours later, he gave up.
Police divers will be back in Canandaigua Lake today searching for the body of a missing canoeist.
A three-day search has failed to find 20-year-old Randall Lis of Canandaigua. The body of 18-year-old Floyd Frey of Canandaigua was recovered on Saturday. Police believe the two took a canoe out onto Canandaigua Lake and likely drowned when the boat capsized.
U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer says he has been assured by five major airlines that they will not follow the lead of Spirit Airlines and charge customers for carry-on bags.
Schumer said he has promises from American, Delta, JetBlue, United and US Airways to not institute such fees.
He said he would continue reaching out to other airlines to get similar commitments.
Governor Paterson wants to toughen the state's sex offender registry law. Paterson has submitted legislation designed to close some loopholes of the original law. The new measure would make it a felony for a sex offender to fail to report their address as required. The bill also makes it clear that sex offenders from other states who move to New York must register as well.
