The Batavia Muckdogs need to find a new Major League Baseball affiliate.

The St. Louis Cardinals – Batavia’s parent club since 2007 – signed Sunday with the State College Spikes for the 2013-14 seasons.

The Muckdogs have been run by the Rochester Red Wings since 2008 and have been for sale since 2010. The team averaged just 904 fans for 37 games at Dwyer Stadium which ranked last in the New York-Penn League. League leader Brooklyn averaged 6,553 in attendance.

Batavia is now one of three free agent NYPL teams including Aberdeen (formerly of the Baltimore Orioles) and Jamestown (Miami Marlins).
