A school bus and tractor trailer were involved in a collision today on West Main Street in East Pembroke that left the school bus flipped on its side. The big rig hit the school bus from behind as it was stopped to pick up a child.

The bus driver and one student were on board at the time. There were no serious injuries, but the child was to UMMC for evaluation. Sheriff Gary Maha says that is unclear what lead to the crash.

“A little discrepancy there,” Maha said. “The school bus driver says the [warning lights] were on, and the truck driver didn’t see the lights. But that doesn’t mean they weren’t on because the truck driver didn’t see them.”
