The LeRoy American Legion Post 576 announced its 44th annual Le Royan of the Year. Regina Diskin of LeRoy has earned the prestigious title. She is the wife of Jerry, mother of three and grandmother of nine. Diskin was employed at LeRoyHigh School for 17 years. She said she is very humbled to receive the award.
“I’m completely blown away and I am thoroughly pleased with the whole thing. You don’t realize how much volunteering you do and how happy you are doing it until its all put down in black and white in front of you,” said Diskin.
Diskin began her volunteer work in the1970’s with the American Red Cross helping those who experienced loss by house fire. Today you'll find she is an active volunteer at the Legion, a board member at the LeRoy Food Pantry and often serves local veterans with rides to doctor’s appointments. Diskin encourages everyone to help their community.
“You get so much self satisfaction out of knowing that you’ve made someone smile and you’ve helped them. If they’re having a difficult time finding a ride to the hospital or to the V.A or “Okay do you need some groceries? I’ll take you to get some” It’s very, very self satisfying to do it,” said Diskin.
The award dinner honoring Regina Diskin will be held at the Legion in LeRoy on October 6th.
