Congressman Chris Lee in a news conference held in Bataiva this morning announced legislation that he hopes will pass and end the practice of printing copies of congressional bills. Lee says this would save money and help the environment. Lee told the gathering that the Congressional Printing Office still delivers five printed copies of every bill to the staff of each of the bill’s co-sponsors. He says each copy could be hundreds of pages long. Lee says if passed the savings to tax payers would be 2.5 million dollars per year.
Batavia City Council will hold a regular business meeting this coming Monday night. 10 resolutions and 5 event applications are on the agenda. One of the resolutions calls for approval of a union contract with the Civil Service Employees Association that was agreed upon in March and adopted March 22 by the union. The agreement will cost the city an additional 79 thousand dollars over the next five years. The session will begin at 7PM in the Council Board Room of the Batavia City Centre. The public Is invited to attend.
Two men have been arrested by members of the Wyoming County Drug Task Force. 20 year old Justin Myers of North Street in Arcade was charged with Criminal Possession and Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance. Myers is accused of possessing and selling a quantity of Hydorcodone and Morphine to under cover officers last October and November. He was arrested yesterday.
41-year-old Ronald Tombari of Court Road in Pavilion was stopped on Route 63 in Covington on Thursday. He’s accused of selling a quantity of Cocaine to undercover officers in the village of Wyoming last November. He’s been charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance.
Both men are in jail with bail set at 25 thousand dollars.
A life long Batavian with 15 years experience in the insurance industry is the newest employee of Tompkins Insurance Agencies. Phil DiMartino has joined Tompkins as an Account Executive. His office will be at the agency’s headquarters at 90 Main Street in Batavia.
