Village of Oakfield residents could soon see a Genesee County Sherriff’s patrol vehicle hanging around the area.

The burglaries, car thefts and reports of suspicious activity this past year have prompted Village officials to ask for additional police presence.

Genesee County Sherriff Gary Maha will be presenting the proposal to the County Legislatures Public Service Committee Tuesday night.

“When they want additional police services within a Village we assign a metro patrol who works strictly in the Village during that time period they will do patrol work, do traffic work, do criminal investigations, above and beyond what we normally provide to the Village,” said Maha.

The Village of Oakfield has already appropriated funding within their budget for the additional patrol.

The full County legislature must approve the agreement before additional patrols can work in the area.

The County legislature's next meeting is on August 8th at 7p.m.
