An air quality alert is in effect for all of Western New York Thursday.
The State Health Department along with the DEC reports that the alert is in effect until 11p.m. Thursday night.
Interim Director of the Genesee County Health Department David Whitcroft explains what the alert means.
“They’re early warnings indicating that the atmospheric conditions, heat and air movement are such that there’s going to be an increase in contaminants in the air which would be stressful for people with preexisting conditions such as asthma,” said Whitcroft.
The State Health Department is recommending that everyone reduce their physical activity outdoors. The humidity levels are also high with forecasters predicting a high of 90 degrees.
