(Batavia Police News Release)
At 4:20am on Thursday, June 14, 2012, The Batavia Police Department received a report of a possible burglary in progress at the 420 Emporium, 400 Ellicott St., Batavia, New York.
An alert resident in the area reported suspicious activity and the sound of glass breaking at the business. Patrols responded and took 24 year old Edward R. Loper, of 19 Porter Ave., Batavia, NY into custody.
Loper had acted as a lookout for another person who made entry and committed larceny from the building. Entry was made by breaking a window with large rocks. A quantity of disposable pipes was removed from the business by the suspect. The merchandise was recovered by Police. The suspect had discarded the merchandise while fleeing the scene.
The investigation continues in regards to others involved in the incident. Loper was arraigned before Batavia City Court and was held in lieu of $15,000.00 bail.
