Police in LeRoy are investigating a copper caper. Investigators said a large quantity of copper wire was stolen from a building at 80 Lake Street.
The heist was discovered Wednesday morning.
LeRoy Police Detective John Condidorio said it appeared the thieves had some knowledge of electricity because the wire they took from the building was connected to the National Grid Utility Pole and was energized with high voltage as it was cut.
There have been a number of cases of stolen copper recently as the recycling market for the metal has increased.
