The idea of a combined City and Town is highly unlikely to be on the ballot this November. Batavia’s Consolidated Charter Task Force is postponing their meetings set for the next two Thursday’s.
Charter task force Chairman Chad Zambito talks about what’s causing the delay.
“Our state lawmakers have asked that we have sort of feel good resolutions from both the town and city before we start the home rule process, that has not yet happened. Which means that document that we prepared may still have some reworking and revisiting to do, the charter, before we take it to a referendum and it didn’t seem pertinent to hold public hearings and information sessions on a document that might still be reworked,” said Zambito.
The Batavia city council approved the proposed charter; the town of Batavia has not yet scheduled a vote on the matter.
