A Batavia woman has been charged with bilking the county’s Social Services Department out of $17,000 in benefits she was not entitled to.

31-year-old Debroah Schramm of Hutchins Place is charged with Grand Larceny and five counts of Offering a False Instrument.

Investigators say Schramm collected more than $17,000 in Medical Benefits and Food Stamps over a six-month period last year.

Officials said Schramm failed to report that her husband was working on a Niagara County farm at the time.

Schramm has been released under supervision and will be back in court next month.

People like Schramm are many out there and they keep on doing it even they get caught and released. Social Services Department should be more careful and the government should enforce some strict laws.

I am far from a rich person and I do know what I did is wrong, however you do NOT know the whole story to judge me ( I believe that's why I go to court). I am on at least 8 different meds and just one is 885.00 the total of 2500 a month. I didn't do it to get pills to abuse or sell on the street I am far from rich I don't have a car or a nice house in fact I struggle to get by day by day. I do not work do to health reasons and I couldn't affored my meds out of pocket even if I wanted to so. yes I did what I had to do to get my meds so if you were ill and you NEEDED those med and you could not afford them or function with out them what would you do!!!!!!!
