This Saturday, April 21st the City Of Batavia Fire Department will be holding a child safety seat check.
The car seat checks are done, because three out of four car seats aren’t used correctly.
Local responders will be certified to answer questions, check recalls on safety seats, and assist with making sure all seats are installed correctly.
City Fire Chief Jim Maxwell talks about why the car seat checks are so crucial.
"We want the children protected in the vehicles should there be a motor vehicle accident and if the seat is not properly installed there is a false sense of security there for the parents as-well as the unsuspecting child," said Maxwell.
The department will be holding safety checks every month.
Maxwell said however, if parents can’t make it any of the events they can schedule a time to come into the station to have the car seat looked over.
Saturday's event will take place starting at 10am until 1pm at fire headquarters.
