A car collided with a tractor-trailer truck Tuesday evening at the intersection of Ellicott and Jackson Streets sending the driver of the car to the hospital via Mercy Flight.
The accident happened around 7:15p.m. Batavia Police said a car heading north on Jackson was making a right turn onto Ellicott. The driver failed to yield to an eastbound truck on Ellciott Street and hit the big rig in the middle section of the trailer.
The unidentified woman who was driving the car was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital via Mercy Flight. Her condition was unavailable Tuesday night although police at the scene said she was conscious and talking when taken to the hospital.
The truck driver, Slawomir Milczek from Ontario said he drives through Batavia every other day. He said he did not realize the car had hit his truck . "All I heard was a loud boom," the driver said. He later looked in his rear view mirror and saw the car had landed on its top near a gasoline pump island at the Red Apple gas station. He said the truck was hauling air conditioning equipment.
