A Georgia man will serve eight years in a New York State prison. 26-year-old Derick Barker fled parole in his home state of Georgia to the City of Batavia.

While in Batavia Barkers rap sheet piled up as he fled from police while they were trying to arrest him, attempted to strangle a fellow inmate in the Genesee County Jail and was also accused of conspiracy to commit murder.

During his sentencing hearing Monday Barker apologized for taking up the courts time for his mistakes.

He will now serve a maximum eight year prison term. Judge Noonan said that is the best deal he’s going to get.
