Our first real test of Winter Driving conditions this morning.
Snow and winds gusting to 40 miles an hour are creating very slippery driving and poor visibility.
The National Weather Service has issued a statement warning motorists of White-Out Conditions at times.
The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 tonight.
The poor weather caused Pavilion and Wyoming Central schools to close today and forced a two-hour delay at Alexander Central.
Batavia Firemen responded to an electrical fire at a home on Maple Street earlier this morning.
There have been reports of some vehicles that have slid off icy roads. At least one tractor-trailer could not make it up a hill in Pavilion.
The forecast for tonight calls for cloudy skies with scattered snow showers and diminishing winds.
Additional snow accumulation is forecast to be around an inch.
Over two dozen HSBC Bank branches in the Buffalo-Niagara region are being sold. First Niagara is selling 26 branches to KeyBank KeyBank is also buying eleven other HSBC branches in the Rochester area as part of a $110-million deal.
HSBC, Key and First Niagara have branches in Batavia but there was no mention of any changes in those branches.
A missing man from Albion has been found.
Jessie Barr had been missing since Tuesday after threatening to harm himself during a family dispute.
Barr was found at a friend’s house in Buffalo.
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver now has a new partner in his push to raise the state minimum wage. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced he would join Silver in urging Albany lawmakers to increase the minimum wage in New York State, which is currently $7.25 per hour.
Monday is the Martin Luther King Junior holiday…but trash pick-up in Batavia will be under a regular schedule. If trash day is Monday, be sure your items are placed at curbside by 6am.
