A number of pending economic development projects across Western New York have been approved by the Cuomo administration.
Most of the projects were in the works but were grouped together in order to make a grand announcement.
Genesee County is up for nearly $2-million in funding, ranging from $450,000 to rehab commercial and residential property in the City of Batavia, $600,000 for a Town of Batavia sewer district, $750,000 for a mushroom processing plant in the new agri-business park and even $110,000 to build a new hen house for a private organic egg farm in Basom.
 
Snow has begun to fall in Genesee County this morning.
We are under a Lake Effect Snow Warning.
So far, the snow has been in the form of light snow showers.
Meteorologist John Hitchcock is on duty at the National Weather Service in Buffalo
said the heaviest snowfall in Genesee county will be in the Town of Alabama where 5 to 8 inches of new snow is possible.
The Lake Effect Snow Warning is posted until 6pm tonight.
 
An accident that may have appeared to have been caused by a high speed police chase, was actually an attempt to stop a vehicle whose driver was stricken ill.
It happened on Route 33 yesterday afternoon.
 Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputies received the report about an SUV driving erratically.
A deputy responded, pursuing the vehicle with lights and siren.
Chief Deputy Jerome Brewster said the pursuing deputy caught up with the runaway SUV and saw the driver was in some kind of distress. 
Brewster said another car driven by an elderly woman had just stopped on the side of the road, trying to avoid the scene.The SUV struck her head-on.
Both drivers were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Route 33 was shut down for about 45 minutes.
 
Police are investigating a homicide near Niagara University.  
The incident unfolded around midnight at University Court in Niagara Falls.  Police say one person was reportedly shot and killed. .. that person now identified as a Niagara University student. No other information was available.
