A pair of Albion residents are charged today with a truly despicable and sickening crime.

25-year-old Donald LaBelle and 21-year-old Ciera Kimerly are both accused of assaulting, abusing, and neglecting their 3-month old baby. Both are jailed today.

Albion Police say their baby was seriously injured by Kimerly “aggressively handling the infant,” causing a head injury and bleeding on the infant's brain. Doctors at Erie County’s Children’s Hospital also found the baby had a less-recent fractured rib, and was malnourished due to constant neglect from both parents.

The assault was first reported by a pediatrician, who called 9-1-1 with a report of "possible injuries" to a 3-month-old. The child was taken to Children's Hospital via Mercy Flight.

The baby is reportedly recovering well today.

Donald Labelle is charged with Reckless Assault and Endangerment, both felonies. He is jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail. Ciera Kimerly is accused of Reckless Endangerment, and Making a False Statement to police. She’s jailed on $2,500 bail.

Both are due in court on Monday.
