Two people are hospitalized with serious injuries after an ATV accident. Monroe County deputies say two people were riding an ATV on Attridge Road in Riga, just into Monroe County, when the driver lost control and rolled the vehicle. One rider sustained critical injuries while the other has serious, but non-life threatening ones. Neither person was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and deputies believe alcohol was a factor.

Alcohol was the apparent cause of a one-car accident early yesterday morning on Chaffee Road in the Town of Java. 44-year-old Keith Smithers of Buffalo was the driver of a car that left the roadway after he reportedly fell asleep. The vehicle crossed over the roadway and ended up in a ditch. Neither Smithers nor his 10-year-old son were injured. Smithers has been charged with Felony DWI, Failure to Keep Right, Driving with a Suspended Registration, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Felony Aggravated DWI, that’s with a child less than 16-years of age in a car.
Smithers is in the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of bail.

A tornado touched down in eastern New York last night, causing some damage but no injuries. Governor Andrew Cuomo issued this statement: "It appears a tornado touched down in the Amsterdam area Sunday evening." He said there were reports of damage to numerous structures. The tornado was caught on videotape by Lindsay Phillips of the Albany Weather Examiner, who was sitting in her car at a Thruway rest stop.

The clean-up continues in New York from Tropical Storm Irene. Members of Cuomo's team are also helping throughout the state in a volunteer effort dubbed "Labor for your Neighbor." Cuomo says they were overwhelmed by the number of people wanting to help out and deactivated the website after getting 2,000 people to help out.
