According to the Darien Lake Theme Park website, the “Ride of Steel” rollercoaster will now be shut-down for the remainder of the park season.
The website lists “repairs requiring customized parts” as the reason for the closure. “Ride of Steel” will re-open in May of next year.
The coaster was shut down last week after a lift chain on the ride broke, stranding passengers on-board for a half-hour.
Earlier this year, the ride was shut down for weeks after Iraqi War veteran James Hackemer fell to his death after being thrown from the ride. Hackemer was laid to rest Monday in Arlington National Cemetery.
