The campaigning and those campaign ads all come to an end today.
Voters in New York’s 26th Congressional District head to the polls today.
This special election was called following the resignation of former congressman Chris Lee, who resigned in disgrace near the start of his second term.
Going into today’s election one poll has the democratic candidate, Kathy Hochul, out in front by a few percentage points.
Republican candidate Jane Corwin is campaigning today in Erie and Niagara County.
Independent Jack Davis did not release his schedule for today.
Polls opened at 6 this morning and will remain open until 9 tonight. Use the same polling place as you do for the November general election.
If all goes according to plan, Downtown Batavia will have another outdoor dining area this summer.
Businessman Ken Mistler got the approval of City Council last night to purchase 1,900 sq. ft. of land adjacent to his South Beach Restaurant for $1,000.
Mistler plans to convert the space into a patio for dining and entertainment.
The South Beach patio is tentatively due to open early this summer.

The Batavia City School Board meets tonight. It is the first meeting of the board since voters rejected next year’s school budget.
The board needs to decide if it will re-submit the same budget for a second vote or adopt a contingency budget. But even a contingency budget packs a 5-percent tax rate increase.
The board meets tonight at 7 in the Administration building on Washington Ave. Persons wanting to attend should know that the board routinely goes into executive session at the beginning of the meeting and the public is left to wait outside the board room until the excutive session is over.
