The State Dept. of Transportation has installed a heavy steel plate over a loose manhole cover on West Main St.
That loose cover caused a pick-up truck to go out of control early this morning.
Batavia Police called the incident, bizarre.
It happened about 5:30 this morning.
A westbound pick-up truck ran over the manhole, the manhole cover flew up and damaged the underside of the truck.
The truck went out of control and ran over a curb near Union Street.
The unidentified driver was not hurt.
The State DOT says Verizon owns the manhole is responsible for repairs.
