While we’ve seen an outpouring of support from friends and relatives of Jonathan Colby, there was another victim in Wednesday’s horrific crash. 27-year-old Angelo Merica was the victim in the oncoming car, when Colby’s vehicle crossed the center line early Wednesday morning.
Now Angelo is having a rough go of it. He remains listed in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Angelo’s uncle and godfather, Jamie Merica, tells us that Angelo’s legs were both badly injured in the crash. He had been conscious and alert when extricated from his vehicle, but now Angelo lies in a medically-induced coma.
Jamie Merica says the accident couldn’t have come at a worse time.
"Actually, he was going to walk down the aisle here in July," Jamie says, referring to his nephew's pending wedding. Angelo had also just recently moved into Batavia, and is the father of two young children.
"Now we don't know if he's ever going to walk again," Jamie says. "He's going to have a long, tough road ahead of him, for sure."
Jamie Merica says it’s too early to determine whether a fundraiser will be held for Angelo’s family.
