A fugitive from the law was picked up on his bicycle on Washington Avenue this week.
22-year-old Benjamin Evans of Batavia was arrested Wednesday on a Petit Larceny charge. He’s alleged to have stolen a retail item from Batavia’s Home Depot store.
Evans was jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail for the minor crime. Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Gordon Dibble tells us that Evans has outstanding affairs with County Drug Court. He’s also wanted for several other minor crimes, but has been eluding authorities.
"We were worried because he's been 'unavailable' recently," says Dibble. "But when you have someone in jail, they're usually pretty available."
Evans is being held, pending further court action.
