Six people are homeless following a fire on Vine Street.
Two alarms were sounded just after 6p.m. last night at 20 Vine Street.
There were no injuries.
The building contained two apartments, an upper and lower.
The cause has not been determined.
Batavia firemen rescued a pet cat from fire.
The Red Cross is helping the displaced families.
A Winter Storm Watch has been posted for Genesee County and most of Western New York. The National Weather Service says the Watch will be in effect from late tonight through tomorrow afternoon.
Heavy wet snow is forecast. The storm has the potential to dump up to 10 inches.
The Genesee County Chamber of Commerce is again the county’s official Tourism Promotion Agency.
The county legislature approved the designation during its regular meeting last night. Lawmakers also approved a tourism promotion budget of $326,000. The money is raised through a 3-percent bed tax on hotel and motel accommodations.
Republicans have introduced their congressional candidate to the local party faithful.
State Assemblywoman Jane Corwin officially announced her candidacy for congress during a series of appearances yesterday.
Speaking at the Old County Courthouse in Batavia, Corwin says she is no stranger to this area visiting often to watch her son play hockey at the Faletti Ice Arena.
Corwin is seeking the congressional seat abruptly vacated by Chris Lee.
Meanwhile, the Democrats issued a statement charging Republicans with making a "rush to judgment" by naming a candidate.The Democrats say they want to take their time.
They may get it.
A substantial delay in any election to fill Lee's seat is expected because the state needs new legislation to comply with federal laws extending the time period for military voting.
Governor Cuomo has responded to the criticism regarding his accepting Holy Communion by saying he will not discuss the issue. Following a budget address on Long Island yesterday, Cuomo told reporters it is quote "not something I discuss in the political arena."
A consultant to the Vatican's highest court is calling for Cuomo to be denied Holy Communion because he lives with his girlfriend, Food Network personality Sandra Lee, without being married to her.
