Festival of Hope
Genesee Cancer Assistance, Festival of Hope, will be held Saturday, June 4, 10am to 3pm at Batavia Downs, Park Road, Batavia. Go on line now  to register to walk, participate in the Pull and Trot competition, Keg throwing contest or order a ribbon in honor or in memory of a loved one for the tree of hope.  Call 585-345-0417 for more information.
United Way Day of Caring
Registration is now open for volunteer registration for the United Way Day of Caring to be held, Wednesday, May 18th. Volunteers of all ages are needed to spend the day helping our neighbors in Genesee County. Gardening, landscaping, washing windows, cleaning, and special projects. Don't delay as registration closes April 8. Call Eric at 343-8141 or go online to register.
Shoe Drive for Wyoming County SPCA
Wyoming County SPCA is conducting a shoe collection drive from March 15th to May 15th to raise funds for repairs to the ceiling in the dog kennels. Shoe donations will also support micro enterprises in developing nations and reduce what goes into landfills. Donate gently worn shoes at the Attica Shelter, 808 Creek Road, Attica.  (for more information call 585-591-3114.
Historic Preservation Needs Volunteers
The Historic Preservation Committee is looking for City of Batavia resident volunteers to submit applications to work on the Historic Preservation Commission. Architects, historians, historic district residents, are particularly asked to volunteer. Go online or to the City Clerk's office.
 Blood Drives
The American Red Cross is in urgent need of blood donors. If you can help save a life, contact the American Red Cross online and schedule an appointment to donate blood. A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check in. Individuals who are 17 years of age or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate.
Alzheimer's Support Group - Batavia
The Genesee County Alzheimer's Support Group will meet at the Richmond Memorial Library, 19 Ross Street, Batavia, the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7pm. The group is designed to provide emotional and social support for caregivers and help participants develop methods and skills to solve problems.
Medical Transportation Program

The Genesee County Office for the Aging is in critial need of volunteers to take individuals to medical appointments outside of Genesee County. Supplemental liability insurance is provided to all volunteers and mileage reimbursement may be available. Contact Dorian Ely, at the Office for the Aging if you are interested in volunteering. 585-343-1611.


United Memorial Medical Center Healthy Living, offers classes on Childbirth, MOMS program, Breast Feeding,  Nutrition counceling, Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support, Diabetes Education Classes, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support . No Cost Mammography is also offered. Call 344-5331 for more information as to dates and registration.
