Friends of the Richmond Memorial Library, 19 Ross Street, Batavia, will hold their monthly book sale, Thursday, September 5, 9am to 7pm. A large selection of mysteries, science fiction, biographies, novels, large prints, cookbooks and children's books will be available.

Food Drive
Genesee ARC, working with the MLK Service Project, is collecting food in support of our local food pantries. The United Way Back Pack Program will also benefit from this service project. Non perishable food items may be dropped off at Genesee ARC, 38 Woodrow Road or 64 Walnut Street; Five Star Bank, East Main Street; or WBTA Studios, 113 Main Street, Batavia.  Suggested items include: peanut butter, canned fruit and vegetables,  tuna, pasta, cereal, rice, soup, jelly or jam, canned meals, snack bags, juice boxes, etc.
 
Girl Scout Cookie Time
The Girl Scouts of Western NY are selling their ever popular cookies, January 9 to April 2. If you do not know a girl scout in your area, you can go online to purchase cookies and support their programs.
 
City of Batavia Awards
The City of Batavia is seeking nominations for recognition awards: Community Volunteer of the Year; Homeowner of the Year; Business of the Year. Nomination forms are available on the City website, or the City Manager's office; or by calling 585-345-6333. Deadline for submitting applications is March 1, 2016.
 
Alabama Oakfield Jolly Seniors
Alabama Oakfield Jolly Seniors will not meet in March, April or May at the Oakfield Community Bible Church.
 
Brass Band Musicians Needed
The Salvation Army is looking for students in grades 6 - 12 to participate in a brass ensemble. Musicians will meet on Sunday afternoons for rehearsals and perform every two months during a youth led worship celebration and on special occasions. A limited number of instruments are available to be loaned out. All levels of proficiency are welcome. Contact Major Patty at 585-861-0747 or via email.
 
NAMI Family to Family Course
The Nami Family to Family Education Program is a 12 week course for families and caregivers of adults living with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and borderline personality disorder. The program is designed to provide insight, information, resources, for families who have a loved one living with mental illness. Program runs Tuesdays, March 1 thru May 17, 6pm to 8:30pm at Northgate Free Methodist Church, 8160 Bank Street Road, Batavia. (for more information call 585-423-1593)
 
Blood Drives
The American Red Cross is in urgent need of blood donors. If you can help save a life, contact the American Red Cross online and schedule an appointment to donate blood. A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check in. Individuals who are 17 years of age or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate.
 
   
Tractor Safety Course
The Genesee County 4-H Youth Development program will offer the National Safe Tractor and Machinery Operation Program to youth ages, 14 to 15 years of age, Saturdays, 8am to noon, beginning in January and running through March. This course will qualify youth to be certified to operate farm equipment for hire. Celebrate Ag Dinner
Tickets go on sale December 1, for the Celebrate Ag Dinner to be held Saturday, March 19, 2016, at the Alexander Fire Hall. The dinner is open to the public, no tickets will be sold at the door. Alzheimer's Support Group - Batavia
The Genesee County Alzheimer's Support Group will meet at the Richmond Memorial Library, 19 Ross Street, Batavia, the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7pm. The group is designed to provide emotional and social support for caregivers and help participants develop methods and skills to solve problems.
 
Medical Transportation Program

The Genesee County Office for the Aging is in critial need of volunteers to take individuals to medical appointments outside of Genesee County. Supplemental liability insurance is provided to all volunteers and mileage reimbursement may be available. UMMC ASK A Nurse

United Memorial Hospital will offer, "Ask a Nurse" community outreach program the First Tuesday of each month from 9am to 11am, in the Jerome Center Lobby, 16 Bank Street, Batavia; and on the Third Tuesday of each month from 9am to 11am, in the main lobby of the hospital at 127 North Street, Batavia. A registered nurse will be present to answer questions, check blood pressure, review medications, and provide diabetes risk assessments. The program is free and open to the public on a walk in basis.

Volunteer to Deliver Home Meals

The Office for the Aging is in need of volunteer drivers to deliver Home delivered meals in Batavia. You can volunteer daily or as little as once a month. Each delivery takes approximately one to one and half hours. Easy pick up accessibility and assistance with loading at the Genesee ARC Community Center, Woodrow Road, Batavia. United Memorial Medical Center Healthy Living, offers classes on Childbirth, MOMS program, Breast Feeding,  Nutrition counceling, Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support, Diabetes Education Classes, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support .
