Salvation Army Holiday Food and Toy Programs
Applications for the Salvation Army Holiday Food and Toy Programs will be accepted from October 26 to December 4, 2015. Applications may be filled out at the Salvation Army 529 East Main Street, Batavia, from 9:30am to 11:30am and 1:30pm to 4pm, Tuesday thru Friday. " Holiday food boxes and toys are available for individuals and or families who have experienced an unexpected financial hardship in the last twelve months. Those wishing to apply must bring a valid picture ID, proof of all income for all members of the household, documentation of all expenses for the entire household for the past four weeks. A landlord statement or utility bill in the applicant's name to prove county residency, and an explanation of the financial hardship'. Applicants must meet with an intake worker in order to apply. 
Coats for Others
Winter coats are available to families and individuals in October at the Salvation Army, 529 East Main Street, Batavia.
Coats will be issued one per person; must be present to take coat. Parents may obtain one coat per child. Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 11:45am and 1:15pm to 3:30pm.  
Red Kettle Campaign
The Salvation Army is still looking for volunteer bell ringers for the annual Red Kettle Campaign. Funds raised help the Salvation Army provide Holiday cheer and  emergency assistance to people in Genesee County. Call Major Robert Kurtz at 585-861-0676 if you can volunteer your time as a bell ringer.
Tractor Safety Course
The Genesee County 4-H Youth Development program will offer the National Safe Tractor and Machinery Operation Program to youth ages, 14 to 15 years of age, Saturdays, 8am to noon, beginning in January and running through March. This course will qualify youth to be certified to operate farm equipment for hire. Genesee Chamber Awards
Nominations for Genesee County Chamber of Commerce annual awards are now being sought. Business of the Year, Entrepreneurial business of the year, agricultural business of the year, Innovative Enterprise, Special Service Recognition, and Geneseean of the Year nominations are being accepted thru November 20. Alzheimer's Support Group - Batavia
The Genesee County Alzheimer's Support Group will meet at the Richmond Memorial Library, 19 Ross Street, Batavia, the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7pm. The group is designed to provide emotional and social support for caregivers and help participants develop methods and skills to solve problems.
Medical Transportation Program

The Genesee County Office for the Aging is in critial need of volunteers to take individuals to medical appointments outside of Genesee County. Supplemental liability insurance is provided to all volunteers and mileage reimbursement may be available. United Memorial Hospital will offer, "Ask a Nurse" community outreach program the First Tuesday of each month from 9am to 11am, in the Jerome Center Lobby, 16 Bank Street, Batavia; and on the Third Tuesday of each month from 9am to 11am, in the main lobby of the hospital at 127 North Street, Batavia. A registered nurse will be present to answer questions, check blood pressure, review medications, and provide diabetes risk assessments. The program is free and open to the public on a walk in basis.

Volunteer to Deliver Home Meals

The Office for the Aging is in need of volunteer drivers to deliver Home delivered meals in Batavia. You can volunteer daily or as little as once a month. Each delivery takes approximately one to one and half hours. Easy pick up accessibility and assistance with loading at the Genesee ARC Community Center, Woodrow Road, Batavia. United Memorial Medical Center Healthy Living, offers classes on Childbirth, MOMS program, Breast Feeding,  Nutrition counceling, Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support, Diabetes Education Classes, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support .
