ARC Transfer Station Renovations
ARC of Genesee Orleans Transfer Station and Recycling Center, West Main Street Road, Batavia, will be open during facility renovations. Just follow signs to rear of building Monday thru Saturday 8am to 2pm.
Health and Humanitarian Nominations Sought
The Jerome Foundation and United Memorial Medical Center Foundation are jointly seeking nominations for the 32nd annual Health and Humanitarian Award. The award recognizes outstanding men and women whose volunteer efforts have improved the physical, emotional, or spiritual well being of the greater Genesee County area. Deadline for receiving nominations is September 6. Go online or call 344-5301 for nomination forms.
Volunteer for HomeCare & Hospice
HomeCare & Hospice is looking for volunteers that volunteer as little as four hours a week; opportunities include office work, events, and opportunities to be trained to help people facing end of life. To make a difference on the Hospice team,  call 800-719-7129.
Transportation Volunteers Needed
DAV Volunteer Transportation Network is in need of volunteer drivers to transport Veterans to and from medical appointments in Buffalo and Batavia. Contact Doug Titus at 585-297-1170. 
Master Gardener Training
Registration is required by Friday, August 26, for Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Training to run on Wednesday evenings, 6pm to 9pm, September 7 to November 16. There will also be a full day of class on Saturday, November 5. Class size is limited, no walks accepted. Register at the CCE office, 420 East Main Street, Batavia, or call Brandie at 585-343-3040, ext. 101.
GLOW Household Harzardous & Pharmaceutical Waste Collection
Registration is now open with only 600 slots available for the GLOW Region Household Hazardous waste and Pharmaceutical collection day to be held Saturday, September 17 in Batavia. Latex paint, used motor oil, asbestos and household batteries will NOT be accepted. Only two CRT TV's or Monitors per registrant will be accepted. Challenger Tennis
Registration is open for Challenger Tennis, open to youth with special needs ages 5 to 21. Lessons and games will be held on Sundays, 4:30pm to 6pm, September 4, 11, 18, and 25, at the Batavia High School Tennis Courts. Challenger Tennis is a collaborations with the City of Batavia Youth Bureau and the YMCA. Call 344-1664 for more information and registration.
 Blood Drives
The American Red Cross is in urgent need of blood donors. If you can help save a life, contact the American Red Cross online and schedule an appointment to donate blood. A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check in. Individuals who are 17 years of age or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate.
Alzheimer's Support Group - Batavia
The Genesee County Alzheimer's Support Group will meet at the Richmond Memorial Library, 19 Ross Street, Batavia, the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7pm. The group is designed to provide emotional and social support for caregivers and help participants develop methods and skills to solve problems.
Medical Transportation Program

The Genesee County Office for the Aging is in critial need of volunteers to take individuals to medical appointments outside of Genesee County. Supplemental liability insurance is provided to all volunteers and mileage reimbursement may be available. United Memorial Medical Center Healthy Living, offers classes on Childbirth, MOMS program, Breast Feeding,  Nutrition counceling, Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support, Diabetes Education Classes, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support .
