United Way Day of Caring
Start getting your teams together for the United Way Day of Caring to be held in Genesee County, Wednesday, May 13, 8am. Registration opens Friday, February 20th and closes Monday, March 30th. Volunteers of all ages are needed to complete projects to give back to our community. Contact Erik Fix, Regional United Way Director for more information.
 
Prom Dress Collection
Living Waters Church, 30 Main Street, Leroy, will collect gently used prom dresses from now until March 13th at the church office, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays between 8am and 3pm. "Girls Helping Girls" project helps area girls receive a free prom dress. Call 768-7570 for more information.

Help for Parents
The Genesee County Salvation Army will hold a free 13 week course which offers practical advice and helpful information on how to promote positive family relationships, Mondays, January 26 thru April 27, from 10am to noon. Participants who attend all 13 sessions will receive a $ 26.00 voucher to the Salvation Army Thrift Store. Call 343-6284 to register.
 
Girl Scout Cookie Time
Girl Scouts will begin taking cookie orders January 17.Cookies will arrive at the end of February and booth sales begin in March. Cookies may also be purchase ordered for veterans. For more information on ordering and Girl Scout programs go to gswny.org

The Richmond Memorial Library, 19 Ross Street, Batavia, will host Story times in the Children's room thru March 9th:
Tuesdays, Toddler Time - walkers to  age 3 - 10:30am

Nominations Sought for 2nd. Annual Orleans County Heritage Heroes Awards
Genesee Community College Medina Campus is now accepting nominations thru February 15, for Orleans County citizens who have worked hard to preserve the county's history. Nominees for the Heritage Heroes Awards may be of any age, no posthumous nominations will be accepted. History professionals and GCC employees are not eligible. All nominees must be individual Orleans County residents and cannot be nominated as a group. Nominations may be sent to GCC, 11470 Maple Ridge Road, Medina or emailed to Jim Simon .
 
 
Medical Transportation Program

The Genesee County Office for the Aging is in critial need of volunteers to take individuals to medical appointments outside of Genesee County. Supplemental liability insurance is provided to all volunteers and mileage reimbursement may be available. UMMC ASK A Nurse

United Memorial Hospital will offer, "Ask a Nurse" community outreach program the First Tuesday of each month from 9am to 11am, in the Jerome Center Lobby, 16 Bank Street, Batavia; and on the Third Tuesday of each month from 9am to 11am, in the main lobby of the hospital at 127 North Street, Batavia. A registered nurse will be present to answer questions, check blood pressure, review medications, and provide diabetes risk assessments. The program is free and open to the public on a walk in basis.

Volunteer to Deliver Home Meals

The Office for the Aging is in need of volunteer drivers to deliver Home delivered meals in Batavia. You can volunteer daily or as little as once a month. Each delivery takes approximately one to one and half hours. Easy pick up accessibility and assistance with loading at the Genesee ARC Community Center, Woodrow Road, Batavia. United Memorial Medical Center Healthy Living, offers classes on Childbirth, MOMS program, Breast Feeding,  Nutrition counceling, Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support, Diabetes Education Classes, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support .
