Parent Academy is a series of workshops designed to give parents information about a variety of educational topics. These sessions are interactive and focused around strategies and resources to be used to enhance parent participation in their child's education. UNITED WAY DAY OF CARING

May 16th is the 2012 Day of Caring date in Batavia. Volunteer registration opens March 5 and closes April 16. So get your friends together and plan now to register. Volunteer to help your neighbors in Genesee County. There will be many projects: painting, gardening, cleaning, and more  - just contact the United Way and they can help you get assigned to a project that is just right for you.

FREE Health Screening Event for Uninsured

United Memorial Medical Center Cancer Services Program will host a screening for women over the age of forty and men age 50 and over  without health insurance or who may have high deductibles, Thursday, March 8, from 4pm until 8pm at the Jerome Center, Bank Street, Batavia. Mammograms; Pap smears; colorectal kits; prostate screening including exam and blood work; blood sugar and blood cholesterol levels; smoking cessation information, and more. ARC Scholarship Applications

Genesee ARC Mary Anne Graney Scholarship program is now accepting applications for the 2012 awards. Apply on line at gencoarc.com  or get more information on the Genesee ARC's web site, under the "Get Involved" tab or call Shelly Falitico at 343-1123, ext. 231 or e-mail her at sfalitico@rochester.rr.com. Scholarships are open to high school seniors that reside in Genesee County who plan to enter college in fall 2012 to pursue a career in Special Education or a field related to Human Services. Applications are due April 1.

BBPW Scholarships

Batavia Business and Professional Women's Club is accepting applications for 2012 scholarships from all Genesee County School students who qualify. Deadline for applications is Friday, April 6. Go to the website to download information and application.

In addition to high school scholarships, the Batavia Business and Professional Women will be awarding scholarships to area Service Groups. Your group should send a short letter requesting to be considered for the award on service group letter head to: Batavia Business and Professional Womens' Club, Service Award, P O Box 1778, Batavia, NY  14020. Requests must be post marked by April 20.

GCC Student Art Show

Student art will be on display in the Roz Steiner Art Gallery, on the Genesee Community College, Batavia Campus, from March 22 through April 26 and again from May 3 to June 28th. Exhibitions are free and open to the public. For open hours, please visit www.genesee.edu/gallery
